BID Updates: Trash, Trees, and Street Clocks
May Newsletter
The BID board members and community members met on April 8th at St. Sophia's beautiful Huffington Center to discuss the state of the BID and track progress on current projects. Here are a few projects we are the most excited about!
Tree Trimming
Anyone who has walked along Pico Boulevard knows how badly our trees need trimming. The BID is working on securing bids from tree trimmers who can prune the trees along the corridor. Once we choose the contractor, and secure the permits, they can begin work.
Street Clocks
A broken clock is right two times a day! That is the current case for our street clocks at the corner of Hoover/Pico and Normandie/Pico, but not for long. The BID has found a local horologist to begin the repair process. Our clock specialist is in the process of diagnosing the issues, but we are excited to see him progress.
Thank you to everyone who attended our last board meeting.

Trash Talk: 311 is the BID's Best Friend
Let's Keep Our Neighborhood Clean! One way to do this is by calling 311.
When you make a service request by calling 311, the City of Los Angeles gets notified and sends the appropriate department to address your request. The more we call 311, the more we alert the City of our needs. This is one way the BID can remain on the City's radar and show them how they can best support our district.
So if you want to help improve your neighborhood, the next time you see graffiti or a pile of trash, call 311!
Spread the word about 311, and download this flyer to share with your neighbors!

Councilmember Hernandez Attends St. Thomas the Apostle Award Dinner
Vanessa Rivera, the school's Director of Advancement and Byzantine Latino Quarter-Pico Business Improvement District board member, organized St. Thomas the Apostle's Annual Awards Dinner and Silent Auction on April 27th. St. Thomas the Apostle, an integral part of the Pico area, has served the community since 1903 and continues to be a nurturing resource for students to learn and give back to their communities.
The event was well-attended by students and their families, proud alumni, district representatives, and Councilmember Hernandez, herself. It was a joyous event that renewed an already-existing sense of community pride and stirred up hope and vigor in the investment in our children- the future of our communities.
